Hemel Hempstead 52pts Royston U-16 0 A DEPLETED Royston side found an older and bigger Hemel side too strong on Sunday. Despite this the team played with spirit and commitment and although they regularly conceded tries they never stopped trying to play good rugby. The game plan was to get stand-in fly-half Joe Cullen to kick for position and use Royston's excellent line-out jumper Martin Goddard to win as much ball as possible. Cullen kicked well out of hand but Hemel had a number of moves at the line-out that reduced the amount of ball won, particularly as they could lift two jumpers, whereas Royston's could only manage one. Despite not being able to dominate the line-out as well as normal, Goddard more than made up for this with his all round performance, stealing ball, covering all of the pitch as well as tackling everything that ran towards him. Patrick McGarry had a fine game at scrum-half, coming closest to scoring for Royston, and Shawn Jackson made a strong contribution in the front row, tackling well and lifting at the line-out.
