TOWN brought their league campaign to a close with a performance that despite what the scoreline suggests was possibly one of their best of the season.

In an entertaining and open game, the visitors started brightly in their search of the three valuable points that would have put them in a strong position to cement third place in the table.

With only a couple of chances in the first half-hour, the hosts upped their game and started to match the tireless Royston midfield and put their well organised defence under pressure.

In the second half, Royston's Matt Lewis and Ryan Cannon caused Cockfosters a number of problems, with Lewis almost opening the scoring.

However, against the run of play, the visitors found themselves a goal behind - one that was quickly followed by a second moments later.

Town's Chris Geldart and Chris Burke tried hard to pull a goal back, but the hosts' defence proved too tough to break.
