FOXTON opened their league campaign with a hard-fought win over Fulbourn.

The visitors struggled to get going, and were on the back foot for most of the first half defending uphill, and conceding numerous free-kicks around the box. But with Haynes, Audley and Kimsey dominant in the air, Fulbourn rarely threatened the Foxton goal.

Fulbourn's best chances came just before the break but superb interceptions by centre-half Chris Haynes and full-back Jamie Clark thwarted the Fulbourn strikers, when they seemed certain to score.

The visitors had the advantage of the slope for the second half and immediately pressured the home defence, with summer signings Conrad Welsted and Adam Fields causing problems.

However, it took until the 85th minute for Foxton to break down the home side, Welsted broke down the left and drove a near-post cross for Fields to head goalwards. The Fulbourn keeper did well to keep it out but Iain Tokely was there at the far post to nod home.
