Thriplow leave it late to see off Foxton

THRIPLOW IIs dug deep and a great all round performance in the field helped them run out seven-run victors over local rivals Foxton II on Saturday.

Having been put into bat, Thriplow were dealt an early blow when Mark Richer went for just 4 runs. However this brought in Kevin Scully and he and Mike Sewell looked comfortable as they weathered the new ball and then took the visitors to 80-1 at the mid-session 20 over drinks.

Scully (38) and Sewell (42) were both clean-bowled and when Spotswood (2) fell the same way and Fred Preston (11) was run out, the score had collapsed to 105-4 after 26 overs.

However, Tuck redeemed himself with some trademark slog sweeps off the spinners to reach an excellent 33 and the tail wagged sufficiently to see Thriplow to 180 all-out in the final over.

In reply, Foxton got off to a good start until Preston bowled Cambridge (22) before Martin Dabnor did the same to Jarvis (13).

Only Farmer (37) and Cooper (29) offered any real resistance for Foxton and despite the last two batsmen needing just 20 runs from the final two overs, they finished seven runs short of the target.
