THRIPLOW gained their first win in Senior League Division 1 with a solid all-round performance to overcome Fulbourn.

Despite making a brisk start, the Fulbourn batsmen soon had their backs to the wall when Thriplow's Nigel Morris delivered a series of unplayable inswinging yorkers to take four wickets in a spell of 10-2-18-4.

While a number of the Fulbourn batsmen got themselves in, none looked comfortable enough to mount a threat, with Dickon Turner causing further torment by gradually working his way through the rest of the Fulbourn order to finish with 5-41 - his second five-for of the season.

All were bowled or went for lbw, with a Sugden catch the pick of the action.

Fulbourn failed to finish their full allocation and were all out for 167 in 42 overs.

The Thriplow response saw them make steady progress, with two contrasting approaches.

At one end Martin Craze was his usual cautious self, while at the other, a more aggressive mix of partners came and went with varied success.

Matt Ayre (11), William Russell (11), Paul Staley (34) and Chris Viner (17) added useful runs, before Craze fell for 54 with 16 still needed.

The old heads of Godric Smith and Jez Tuck kept things moving, and with nine runs needed from 12 balls, Smith struck a full toss high over the square leg boundary.

Moments later he hit the winning runs and finished on 24 not out to give Thriplow victory by five wickets.
