THE new head coach of Fowlmere Football Club has set the club a three-year target to work their way into the football pyramid.

Former Royston Town and Buntingford Town coach Steve Walker has joined the BIS Division 1A club with a clear intention - to gain promotion.

He said: "Fowlmere have had a bit of a restructure for next season and I've come in to give them a hand. I'm a FA qualified coach, with experience of both local and non league football, so hopefully I've got something to offer."

Walker said the club's short-term goal was to gain promotion to the Kershaw League, but eventually to reach level seven of the football pyramid.

"I think that has to be the club's aim, and I can see no reason why it can't be done," said Walker.

"The club has probably the best facilities around for a club this size. Fowlmere is in a good position and has the potential to achieve big things, and I think three years is the aim."

Walker will oversee the running of the first team and work alongside manager Giuseppe Pascuzzi, who has been at the club for nine years.

Daren Sewell, who also has FA coaching badges, has come in as the new reserve team coach and has set his sights on bringing younger players to the club.

He said: "I'm looking to get more youth into the reserve team and give them experience.

"Every successful club needs good youngsters coming through.

"At the moment we're in Division 5A, which is a tough one to get out of. However, it may take some time but I think we've also got to be looking at promotion."

Chairman Tony Deans said: "Added to the experience of Giuseppe, Daren and Steve are bringing in a lot of enthusiasm and knowledge of the game.

"They both have a lot to offer the club, and there's not many village teams that can say they have two qualified coaches.

"The club has some excellent facilities, including great changing rooms, club house, and pitches, which not many clubs at this level have.

"It's a bit early to say but I'd certainly like to win the league next year, and it's a very exciting time to be part of this club."

- The club is also on the lookout for players for the next season, for both the first and reserve teams.

Training starts on Tuesday, July 3 at the club. For more information contact Steve Walker on 07970064866.
