BARLEY recorded a deserved win against Cambridge St Giles, with captain Chris Allan leading by example.

After winning the toss, Allan and Jamie Walters saw off their opponents' bowlers, with the skipper reaching 34, before he was caught by Badger.

When Jason Busby went cheaply, Brian Symes and Chris Markham were left to take the Barley score on and their clever play left the St Giles fielders frustrated.

Mat Chandler, Adam Pattison, and Keith Markham all added to the Barley total, and took their side to 183-6 off their 40 overs.

In reply, Barley opening bowlers Peter Chuck and Michael Ross were economical from the off, with Ross taking a wicket in his first over, and Chuck soon after.

St Giles Skipper Gurdeep Salloo was soon dismissed lbw by Chandler, and then Symes and Walters chipped in with wickets of their own.

By the time Pattison bowled the last over the game was already in the bag for Barley, with St Giles all out for 108.

It was a great result for Barley, and barring some extraordinary results the club will be safe for another year, although their opponents will almost certainly go down.
