Under-12s Division Four

ROYSTON Celtic kicked off their game against Baldock with the benefit of a strong wind behind them and were soon into their stride with Faheem Jeewoth, restored to the attack, having a shot as early as the first minute.

Jeeworth hard two further chances inside the first quarter as the youngster put in a strong display in the opening exchanges while fellow striker Ollie Green also looked in top form having a goal ruled out for offside after 14 minutes, scoring on 17 minutes and generally making a nuisance of himself all afternoon.

Green's goal was the result of a quickly taken free kick by Tom McGee who put his team mate clean through on goal and went on to help the home side keep a clean sheet for the third game in a row while being ably assisted by fellow central defender Jordan Cooney.

Celtic piled on the pressure with Danny Mynott going close and creating chances with some strong runs down the right wing, but despite their dominance the home side could not add a second before half-time and also required some good defensive work from Ethan Lewis to cut out a couple of potential threats from Baldock down the left.

After having much of the play in the first half but only having one goal to show for it, Celtic might have found themselves up against it in the second half.

They soon came to terms with kicking into the still strong wind, however, and midfielder Robbie Filby continued to make good challenges and provide prompting passes.

The Celtic defence had more to do in the second half and had a slight scare 11 minutes after the break when the visitors broke clear only for the resulting goal to be ruled offside.

Baldock also earned a couple of corners in the second half so it was by no means one-way traffic, though keeper Ryan Judge did not have much difficulty in keeping another clean sheet.

Brandon Hargreaves on the left of midfield put in some good runs and dangerous crosses to keep up the Celtic pressure which was finally rewarded in the 48th minute when left back Charlie Edwards continued his run of goals with an opportunistic strike when the ball ran loose to the edge of the area.

Substitute Callum Goodall put in a determined performance on the right in the later stages of the game and Celtic made the game safe in the 56th minute.

The Celtic midfield pairing burst through the Baldock defence and it was left to Ian Kuenzi, back from injury, to apply the finishing touch.

Manager Wayne Hargreaves summed up the performance by saying that the defence looked solid, the midfield created some good chances and the forwards are working hard and finishing well.
