ROYSTON Tennis Club's ladies have been confirmed the winners of the Division Three league title.

The team won five out of the six matches they played this season and will now face second division opposition next season.

The men's first team are also assured of promotion to division two next year despite being beaten 5-3 on their last match of the season, which was played away to Peterborough.

The team members for that match were Andy Holmes, Matt Fellingham, Garry Tobiss and Mike Fellingham and although all the matches in this division have not yet been played the team has already done enough to go up.

The men's second team drew at home to Saffron Walden seconds with a team made up of Mike Fellingham, John Goodbody, John Holmes and Peter Goodbody and they still have one more match remaining in January.

The mixed first team of Andy Holmes, Pru Burton, Richard Fosbeary and Hannah Crisford were well and truly beaten 8-0 away to the divisional winners Great Shelford firsts.

There were only four points between the top five teams in this close division but unfortunately Royston will be relegated to the second division next year.

Although the first team had a bad end to their season, the mixed second team of David Addison Emma Daintrey, Roger Maybury and Kathy Betts had a great finish with a 7-1 home win against Huntingdon seconds and a 6-2 win against Burwell firsts.

Despite their impressive end to the season the team just missed out on promotion to the first division by finishing third in the division.

Royston Tennis Club's coaches have been busy during the winter season with many mini, junior and adult coaching and fun sessions.
