HUNDREDS of youngsters descended on Therfield Heath for a festival of tag rugby.

The event was organised by the Hertfordshire Sports Partnership, Saracens Rugby Club, and Royston Rugby Club, and involved a number of schools including Roysia Middle School, St Mary's Primary, Sandon JMI, Millfield, Roman Way, Icknield Walk, Tannery Drift, Therfield, and Freman College in Buntingford.

The aim of the festival was simple - to excite and enthuse youngsters about the benefits of playing sport through the enjoyable game of tag rugby.

Sports partnership development manager Jan Wood said: "We wanted to involve as many young people in the event as possible and I think we certainly achieved that."

Royston Rugby Club's community development officer David Gee said: "The good thing about tag rugby is the fact everyone can play. It gives the youngsters a great platform to learn skills and develop their game.

"Royston Rugby Club is looking to be more hands-on within the community, and this was a great event to be part of.
