BARLEY slumped to a disappointing three-wicket defeat against Whittlesford in Cambs League Division 1B.
The visitors were all out for a lacklustre 60, with only Barley captain Brian Symes managing to trouble the hosts with his well-worked 25. Bruce Carnaby (5), Mark Downer (8), Chris Allan (6), Joe Fanthorpe (1), Peter Chuck (2) and Jason Busby-Mitchell (3) added the rest, while Jamie Walters, Chris Markham, Ali Wallace and Nick Butler all failed to register.
The home side also got off to a slow start, however at 7 for 3, Peter Carter found his range and took Whittlesford closer to their target with a valuable 33.
Symes impressed with the ball, however despite the skipper taking four wickets, the hosts did enough and ended proceedings on 61 for 7 off 21.5 overs.
In Division 5C Barley seconds were more fortunate and claimed a one-wicket win against derby rivals Barrington seconds, who, batting first, totalled 164. In reply, Barley saw the game through, making 166 for 9.
In a disappointing weekend for Barrington, the firsts also suffered a loss, and went down by 71 runs against Babraham in Senior Division 1. Chris Palmer's brilliant 102 did much for Babraham's 291 for 5 off their 45 overs, while Tom McNulty (36) and Andrew Palmer (69) also impressed.
Barrington made a decent start in reply, with Mark Ferrari (26), Barry Douglas (10) and Mark Smith (25) setting the hosts on the road. And when Steven Douglas breezed his way to an imperious 72, Barrington looked on course for a decent total.
However, only Neil Hardman (18), Gareth Hopwood (11) and Clive Heginbotham (16) managed to really break through and as a result Barrington slipped to a brave 220 all out.
In Junior Division 2C, Bassingbourn tied their game with Babraham seconds, with both sides ending the game on 181. The hosts made 181 for 7 off 40 overs, with Rob Taylor (59) top scoring for the hosts.
In reply, Bassingbourn were all out for 181, with Matt Andrews their main threat with the bat by making 77. Opener Graham Thompson also impressed and shared an early stand of 41.
Cokenach also slipped to a weekend of defeats, with the firsts losing at Burrough Green by 30 runs in Division 1B, with the hosts finishing the first innings on 195.
The seconds also suffered a heavy defeat, losing at home to Linton Village seconds by 125 runs in Division 5C. In chasing Linton's 220 for 8, the hosts could muster only a disappointing 95.
In Division 2C, Foxton seconds were beaten at home, with Audley End & Littlebury coming out on top with a 10-wicket victory, while in the same division Haslingfield saw off Little Shelford with a hard-fought 35-run victory, having chalked up 154 for 8 off 40 overs.
