LAST weekend saw the British rounds of the BMX Racing European Championships in Somerset, an event which attracted almost 400 riders from across Europe

Royston Rockets had three riders competing with Ethan Vernon and Aaron Dalleywater, pictured right, trying their luck in the year nine and 10 class and Lee Alexander racing in two classes.

Ethan was one of the younger nine-year-olds in the class but still managed to make it to the semi-finals on both days although fifth places ended his racing in each round.

Aaron is 10 years old and the extra year showed as he eased his way into the main finals with a great third place on Saturday and a hard fought sixth on the Sunday.

An early start on Sunday for an 8am practice session did not deter Lee as he rode in both the Cruiser 40 plus class and the 20 inch wheel 30 plus class. Lee made the finals in both classes and took fifth in the 30 plus standard class then topped the day with a fine win in the Cruiser 40 plus category.

The next event on the regional race calendar is the return leg of the EA v South Challenge at Hayes in early July where the Rockets will again be out in force to chase points for their ranking positions.
