GARY Fortune won the January Medal at Royston Golf Club on Sunday.
After a downpour on Saturday the course was in fine condition and was matched by Fortune's nett 66, four under par from his 13 handicap.
His victory, by two shots, will qualify him for the medal winners final in October.
Mial Walker took the runners-up spot in Division Two (83-15=68), pushing Nick Leah into third place on countback.
Division One, for handicaps of 12 or less, was won by Mick Rowland with a nett 68, who beat eight handicapper Steve Rogers on countback.
Steve Gorman also played some steady golf, returning a nett 69 to fend off Phil Neep and Adam Woods, and take third spot.
Woods had the consolation of taking the best scratch prize with a 72.
Highlight of the day, though, was Tony Hannington's hole in one on the sixth.
A soaring nine iron saw the ball pitch just nine inches from the pin and with a bit of backspin it found its way into the cup, to land the player a rather hefty bar bill.
The midweek stableford saw Mike Taylor take the spoils with 37 points, and his handicap was trimmed to 15.
Gavin Williams also reduced his handicap by a shot after finishing second with 36 points.
Both Ian Gavine and Peter Mitchell scored 34 points, but Gavine's superior back nine meant he took third spot on countback.
