FOUR Melbourn Judo Club's senior members attended the Ipswich senior open championships at the Northgate Leisure Centre. Stuart Pinney, competing in the Men's "Kyu Grade" category, narrowly missed out on a medal. Martyn Jacklin, in the mixed 1st Kyu and Dan Grades event, had three tough contests and also missed a medal placing. Hamish Cameron, fighting in the men's under-81 kilo category, had two great wins and also collected 10 promotion points towards his 2nd Dan. He needs only five points and to pass his second Dan theory to become the club's next second Dan. Cameron was placed third in his group to win the Bronze medal. Helen Ashworth, competing in the ladies Dan grade (black belt) veteran's won two of her three fights and won a silver medal. In recent weeks, the club has seen new senior members complete their induction period and gain their first promotion. Geoff Hyland and Gerhard Oberholzer were both promoted to Yellow Belt - 9th Kyu.
