Royston Ladies 4 Stevenage 2

ROYSTON Ladies came back strongly from their unlucky defeat last week and convincingly beat Stevenage's second team 4-2.

After a slow start Royston started to find their stride pressing forward with strong attacking passes by Kerry Alexander, Katie Ellard and Kirsty Penfold down the left wing.

Against the run of play Royston went behind from a quick breakthrough by the Stevenage forwards but they bounced straight back with a good short corner routine finished off by Sarah Buckerfield.

The second half saw Royston dominate the match and Ruth Askham and Sophie Gathercole linked well to provide Buckerfield with her second of the game. Great play down the left saw Kirsty Mckenzie slot the third home with a reverse stick shot and Royston's fourth came when Denise Underwood earned Royston another short corner which saw Askham's shot saved and Buckerfield rifled home her third.

Royston II 3 Aylesbury II 4

DESPITE putting three past Aylesbury, Royston conceded four.

It started well with Wendy Holt flicking into the bottom left corner to open the scoring, but Aylesbury equalised just before half time after being thwarted by a succession of fine saves by player-of-the-match Claire Edwards.

After changes in formation by both teams, Aylesbury started the second half the stronger team and the speed of their younger players showed with them scoring a couple of goals to go up 3-1.

A fine solo effort again by Holt pulled the score back to 3-2, but Royston again slipped back, conceding another to go 4-2 down.

Instead of letting their heads drop, this drove Royston on and Sarah Farmer scored their third but Royston ran out of time and could not save the match.

Royston III 4 Leighton Buzzard V 0

ROYSTON Ladies dominated this game from start to finish and were unlucky not to score more goals as they had many chances.

The first goal, in the first 10 minutes, was well worked down the right with Alisha Mann passing to Lisa Thompson who put the ball across the goal for Heather Polge to poke home at the far post.

Five minutes later Mann, the player-of-the-match, crossed for Thompson to pick up and hit through the 'keeper's pads.

After half time Royston came out determined and again Mann, alongside Harriet Johnson, played a well worked ball down the right before passing to Thompson who got her second while Mann finished the game with her first goal for the club after a good move by Di Hassen, Emma Whitaker and Harriet Johnson.
