STEEPLE Morden ended the longest unbeaten run in Division 3A thanks to the odd goal in five in a classic encounter.

Although Hundon were unbeaten at home since September it was Steeple who made the most menacing start and top scorer Ben Holt was unlucky not to convert a Matt Chapman cross at the far post.

It was influential skipper Dom Holt who broke the deadlock on 24 minutes when he rifled home a splendid free-kick from 25 yards, his 16th goal of the campaign, and man-of-the-match Matt Chapman went close to doubling his side's lead but saw a good effort crash back off the underside of the bar.

Hundon broke back immediately with pace and squeezed an equaliser passed Andy Smith who had earlier made a fine save to deny the same striker.

With half-time approaching a harsh handball decision was given against the immense Laurence Harrison and the penalty kick was comfortably dispatched.

Steeple began to reassert themselves in the second half with Charlie Prothero ably supporting Dom Holt in the midfield battle although the home side were still offering plenty in attack.

As the hour mark approached Steeple scored a well worked equaliser when Martyn Lees cleverly released Ben Holt and the tall striker comfortably slotted his 26th goal of the season and with 20 minutes to go Chapman shrugged off a couple of challenges as he cut in from the right and unleashed an unstoppable effort from 25 yards to give Steeple victory.

Manager Kenny Watters was delighted with his players, saying: "I believe we are as good as anybody in our division when we are at full strength and to string together seven consecutive victories at this all important stage of the season says a lot about my squad."

Steeple: Smith, Richardson, Harrison, Donald, Collins (Tidey), Cooke (Morris), Prothero, D Holt, Chapman, Lees, B Holt.
