STEEPLE Morden eased to a comfortable four-wicket victory over Barley at the weekend in an entertaining low-scoring match.

Batting first, Barley came up against the experienced duo of Martin Osborne and Paul Jarman in the Morden attack and were quickly reduced to 13-5 before Markham and Leigh Stewart staged a recovery that was ended by a fantastic catch by Tim crosse off the bowling of Osborne (10-4-24-3). Veteran Graham Jarman (6-1-25-3) came into the attack and along with Paul Jarman (9-3-28-3) dismissed barley for 82.

In reply, Morden lost an early wicket but Steve Bailey and Paul Jarman settled in against good bowling from Peter Chuck and Stewart when Bailey (16) departed before another wicket fell cheaply.

Youngster Ryan headington played some fine shots before being bowled by Bonnett with only four runs need for victory. He then took two more wickets as Morden went from 74-3 to 78-6, but Jarman (42*) and Osborne stood firm as Morden picked up the points.
