Steeple Morden 5 Dullingham 1

STEEPLE MORDEN closed their season in style and secured a top six finish with a comprehensive victory over promotion chasing Dullingham.

The hosts were keen to seek revenge against the side that had emphatically ended their fine unbeaten run two weeks earlier and they made a dream start when Dom Holt fired them into the lead after just 30 seconds.

Striker Martyn Lees doubled the lead five minutes later when he calmly slotted home from close range following some good work from Ben Holt.

The third soon followed when Lees was picked out at the far post and he duly volleyed home for his 14th goal the season.

Paul Hutley and Lawrence Harrison were dominant at the back and contained the visitor's physical front line and ably supported by Martin Donald and Graham Collins.

The visitors did earn a penalty but the spot kick struck the bar as Steeple turned up the pressure once more.

Only a magnificent full stretch save denied Jason Clark and then Lees missed an opportunity for his hat-trick following a Charlie Prothero cross.

After the break young substitute Dom Oxenford forced a corner and when that was not properly cleared Jason Clark smashed the ball home from 22 yards.

With Steeple dominating, substitute Karl Parr cleverly cut the ball back to Dom Holt who teased the keeper before curling it into the top corner for his 20th goal of the season.

Dullingham, who are the top scorers in the league, grabbed a consolation goal in the last minute.

Manager Kenny Watters said: "A top six finish is no more than we deserve. The club has not finished this high for some years and it gives us a great platform for next year particularly with the young players like Martin Donald and Dom Oxenford coming through so well."

Buntingford Town 1 Bovingdon 0

A STRONG end of season run in saw Buntingford home to a respectable sixth place finish.

In a year of ups and downs, Luke Capon's inexperienced side look to have finally settled to life in the Herts Senior County Premier Division.

Unbeaten in their final three league games, Tom Randall's cool strike maintained Towns' recent momentum scoring the only goal in an end-to-end encounter.

The visitors did hit the bar in the final minutes, but Town held firm to hang on to three deserved points.
