A BATTLING performance from Steeple Morden helped them see off Great Chesterford.
Manager Kenny Watters said: "The whole team battled and defended well.
"We looked like a strong unit, considering the changes made, and once again we have plenty of goals in us."
Indeed, Watters was forced to draft in Jason Clark and Lawrence Harrison from the reserves, while assistant manager Karl Parr took up an unfamiliar position in midfield.
Steeple did not have to wait long for the opening goal, which came courtesy of Dom Holt.
After being put in the clear by Clark, he coolly slotted in his 16th goal of the season.
Holt then turned provider, setting up strike partner Martyn Lees, who beat the keeper from 10 yards.
Great Chesterford pulled one back from close range just before half-time, but restored their two-goal cushion in the opening moments of the second period.
This time it was Harrison who got on the scoresheet, nodding in Holt's corner.
Harrison made it 4-1 with another header, before the visitors reduced the arrears at the death.
Steeple will have to be at their best again on Saturday, when they go to Abington United.
