ROYSTON Bowling Club started the new season on Saturday with an open day at Green Drift.
With the club celebrating its 80th annivresary this season, the day began with a picture of all the members, and continued with a spoon drive.
Forty-eight members took part in the competition, with the proceeds from the event going to this year's chosen charity - the British Heart Foundation.
With more than 80 members and friends present, the clubhouse was overflowing for the spoon drive winner's presentation, with Brenda Holland collecting the trophy.
This year's president, Colin Wilson, thanked everyone for attending, and hoped that all of those taking part in County, Lethworth & District and club competitions throughout the summer season would be successful.
He also urged club members to support the Britsih Heart Foundation during the course of the season.
n A total of 50 Melbourn Bowls Club members and visitors enjoyed the opening roll-up on Sunday, glad to be out in the fresh air on a sunny afternoon.
Maybe there were a few creaking backs and stiff muscles after the winter's hibernation but everyone had a good time and the club are looking forward to a great season.
The club hopes to see the rest of its members and some more visitors at their second roll-up on Sunday before the leagues start on the May 1 with a match against Sawston "A" in the Meldreth & District league, the first game in a very busy season.
