ORGANISERS have declared the latest Royston Sports Fayre a great success.

The fayre, at Royston Leisure Centre on Sunday, gave visitors the chance to experience the many sporting activities available in the town.

Representatives from clubs such as Royston Golf Club and Royston Rugby Club were present.

Royston Sports Council organised the event. Chairman Ken Charles, said: "It was a very successful day - we've already had a lot of messages from people saying how much they enjoyed themselves.

"One of the best aspects of the fayre was seeing how many children and young people came along. There was a real family atmosphere."

Mr Charles says that several of the clubs represented at the fayre have contacted him to say that they feel they have found a lot of potential new members.

He said: "The clubs were all quite happy with how the fayre panned out. One of the things I was a little disappointed with was the lack of representation from a few sports, particularly football."

"I know a lot of the local football community have matches on Sundays.

"We'll speak to them again in the run-up to the 2008 fayres."

The sports council has already started planning for next year.

Mr Charles said: "We had a meeting on Monday night to discuss Sunday and how it went. We also decided to hold two fayres in 2008 - one in April and one in September, like we did this year.

"Hopefully we can get even more people involved next time.
