Bassingbourn U11s produced a spirited second half display in their opening-day clash at St Neots to start the season with a 2-1 win.

St Neots started the game brightly and took an early lead with a nice finish into the roof of the net after Bassingbourn failed to clear a corner.

As the half went on the Bassingbourn midfield started to take control and this led to some great chances, but unfortunately the Reds couldn’t convert their pressure into goals and they went in at half time 1-0 down.

In the second half Bassingbourn looked like a different side as they dominated both possession and territory. There was more energy about their play and passes suddenly started to find their targets. A lovely left foot strike from George French soon levelled the match before Jonah Steckley picked up the ball just outside the box and ran through most of the St Neots defence before finishing coolly past the keeper to make it 2-1.

Bassingbourn had chances to increase their lead but couldn’t quite turn their possession into further goals, but they were happy to come away with the points.
