ROYSTON romped to victory at St Albans at the weekend.
The first 10 minutes of the match mirrored the drab conditions with little progress being made by either team.
But the slow start was quickly shattered after some enterprising play by James Clare, who broke the deadlock when he dragged the ball from the back of the ruck and powered over in the far right corner to open the scoring.
Galvanised by this, Royston began to believe in themselves and started throwing the ball with confidence. A long pass by Louis Boulter fed Josh Maynard who again powered over in the far corner to increase the lead.
And Maynard repeated this feat for the next Royston score, following some good support play by Liam Chambers.
More slick passing allowed Clare to go over for a further try shortly before half-time, at which point Royston led by 22 points without reply.
In the second half Royston continued where they had left off, and Clare ran through for his third try.
Immediately from the restart, Clare collected the kick and promptly ran the ball back from inside his own half to extend Royston's lead.
Rather than take their foot off the accelerator, Royston further increased their lead when Charles Trim, Tom Stone, and Adam Richardson added to the points.
It was a resounding victory for Royston, who never let the home side settle.
