DEFENSIVE naivety cost Buntingford Town on Saturday as they slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Wormley Rovers.

And it was the visitors' first win in eight league games, with a Lee Bone double sinking unlucky Town.

Assistant manager Paul Fisher said: "I thought we played quite well throughout the game, and we really should have come away with something. But yet again we conceded two silly goals - and that cost us.

"We didn't have a bad first half, so to go in 1-0 down was a real blow. However, we turned things around and tore into them after the break and as a result we should have had more than the one goal.

"And having dominated most of the half, Wormley broke away and hit us with another with just 10 minutes left. And it was hard to take."

For the third time in four games, Town conceded an early penalty, however this time Jordan Gibson was on hand to turn the ball wide with a stunning one handed stop.

However, he was beaten two minutes before the break when poor marking allowed Bone to sweep home a powerful strike from the corner of the Buntingford box.

In the second half, Phil Fisher, Gareth Clarke, and Ricky Lawrence caused problems for Rovers, and their bright play was rewarded when Alan Kenney's cross was met by a superb Ross Whitaker volley.

However, Town missed the chance to kill the game with Fisher firing narrowly wide, and they ultimately lost a share of the points when another bout of sloppy defending gave Bone the chance to slot home his second with 10 minutes left.

Fisher said: "We face fourth-placed Park Street Village on Saturday and that will be another tough game. But we're a team that is always going to create chances, so if we can avoid conceding an early goal then I would be confident we can get a result."
