THRIPLOW seconds played host to fellow strugglers Abington seconds and lost a 'six-pointer' to remain rooted at the foot of the table.

The home side fielded first, with tidy opening spells from Ali King (10-0-25-0) and Andrew Wooley (10-1-33-0).

Thriplow were unlucky not to take early wickets, and by the half-way stage Abington had reached 72 with all their wickets intact.

A change of bowling saw some success, with Baxter (4-0-27-1), Tuck (5-0-32-3) and Richie Turner (6-0-15-2) but they were unable to stop Abington reaching 190 with their captain Greg Wagstaff top-scoring with 43.

Thriplow went confidently about chasing down the total, and with a batting line-up that, on paper looked strong, they were not perturbed by the loss of both openers Goodacre (10) and Carr (5) with only 24 on the board.

Walker and Dabnor set about building the foundations, and pushed the score on to 67-2, with runs coming at an increasing pace.

Two significant interruptions seemed to break their concentration however, and Dabnor was bowled for 31.

Jerry Jackson (15), Walker (13) and Baxter (10) all lost their wickets before amassing sufficient runs, although Jez Tuck looked threatening in hitting a quick-fire 21.

Despite some valiant efforts, Thriplow fell short on 163 all out - another defeat in an increasingly disappointing season.
