ROYSTON were sunk by three second-half goals at high-flying Luton on Saturday.

The first-half proved to be very competitive, with the home side starting strongly and forcing Royston on to the defensive.

As the half progressed Royston matched their opponents' commitment and with good performances from their young midfield players started to cause the home defence problems.

Royston were put under pressure early in the second-half.

And they looked as though they would survive until Luton converted a half-chance.

This encouraged the home side and they increased their lead with a second deflected goal five minutes later.

Royston conceded a third following a defensive lapse, that enabled Luton to secure the points.

Stevenage IV 3 Royston III 1

ROYSTON travelled to a strong Stevenage side with a number of forced changes.

Stevenage opened this encounter with a well-organised midfield move that left the visitors flat-footed.

The goal made Royston respond and their forward line of Paul Bloomfield, Colin Bateman, and Sam Polge caused the hosts some early problems.

After some clever plays it was Bloomfield who pulled the visitors level.

In the second-half, Royston did well to break down a number of Stevenage attacks, with Matt Brunt, Pete Belcher, and captain Dan Taylor battling hard.

However, as the game wore on, the hosts began to turn the screw.

Gary Pinner pulled off a number of good saves, but two good open moves saw the Stevenage midfield break through and score.

Royston continued to push forward, with Michael Welding and Polge continuing to disrupt the home side's rhythm.

But with a number of chances going begging, the Royston squad must start taking chances if they want to stay in the top four.

Harpenden IV 2 Royston IV 0

AWAY to league leaders Harpenden, Royston were unlucky not to get something from the game.

Despite conceding an early goal through poor defending, Royston were by far the better side in the first-half exchanges.

The midfield trio of Simon Campbell, Steve Welding, and Perry Noble, ensured that Royston enjoyed the territorial advantage and kept the home defence under pressure throughout.

The home side came out in the second-half a lot stronger and Royston were soon forced into the defensive.

Just when it looked like Royston had weathered the storm an unfortunate deflection helped put Harpenden in front.

However, the last quarter of the game was all Royston, but a combination of good goalkeeping and bad luck enabled the home side to hang on.

Royston V 0 Letchworth VI 2

A STRONG Letchworth side prevented Royston from increasing their points tally with two first-half goals.

Royston played some good hockey and their build up play from midfield was excellent.

It was an even better Royston performance in the second-half, and they really should have scored.

With a flurry of chances all coming within a short space of time, Royston were kept at bay by some terrific Letchworth defending.
