ANGLIA Land Yacht Club based at Bassingbourn held the second round of the British Land Sailing Championship series on their airfield circuit over the weekend.
In near perfect conditions with a light to moderate south westerly wind, 30 competitors battled for top honours around the 2km circuit. With the land yachts reaching speeds of over 50 mph the competition was close with local club members taking victory only in the premier class 3 over visiting sailors from clubs around the country.
Guilden Morden sailor Steve Borrill landed his first victory of the season in class 3 taking him to first place in the British championship series. Local man Garry Cavaliero from Cherry Hinton took second place and Derek Nixon from the Wirral club in Cheshire was third. Other classes were dominated by visiting competitors with Rhys Davies from York winning the one design Standart class and Ian Dibden from Lytham St Annes taking top honours in Class 5.
