FOXTON seconds opened their league campaign in Division 2C in style with a closely-fought win over Audley End.

Fielding first, Foxton took wickets at key moments despite the best efforts of G Young (56) who top scored for Audley End.

And they were restricted to 185 all out from just under their 40 overs, with veteran Tom Williams (5-35) the pick of the Foxton bowlers, with Ben Howlett's impressive 3-17 also vital.

Good support came from Matt Westley, who took his first senior wicket, and Archie Sabey and Lee Cooper both bowled well, the latter picking up 1-29.

Foxton's reply started slowly, losing Nigel Howlett for just three, however Ben Howlett (45) and a steady innings from both Tyler Deas (25) and captain Andy Cambridge (23), kept the Foxton chase on target.

But Foxton had to rely on 15-year-old debutant Archie Sabey, whose fine 27 not out helped to steer the visitors to victory with an over to spare, as Foxton got home with three wickets in hand.
