Ashwell (218-8) beat Littleport Town (211) by 7 runs.

OVER 420 runs were scored at Ashwell Rec on Saturday on the same batting track that last week's opponents Saffren Waldon deemed unfit for play.

Ashwell batted first and found themselves in trouble at 10-2 thanks to a probing opening spell from Mason, but Steve Parkhouse (26) and then Tom Wallace (30) and Tim Moynihan (30) helped restore the innings.

An increase in the scoring rate was provided in a stand of 93 for the sixth wicket by Martyn Deal (22) and Martin Talks, with the latter smashing 71 in an innings that contained six fours and four sixes as Ashwell sprinted to 218-8.

In reply, Littleport's opening batsmen set about the task with Stone scoring quickly and heavily. After Ashwell's new ball attack failed to make inroads, Tim Moynihan (3-29) began to turn things in Ashwell's favour.

A stumping from Richard Young off the bowling of Graham Scott (1-20) accounted for Dougan, and the returning Martin Talks (3-53) took the vital wicket of Stone (87).

As the number of overs remaining decreased, wickets continued to be lost and Ashwell claimed a win by seven runs.
