ROYSTON captain Lyle Clarke led the under-nines to victory over Datchworth on Sunday, with winger James Sharp opening the scoring in the first game.

Datchworth played a very physical game up front and gave the Royston pack a run for their money with Royston prop Jake Letch putting in a memorable performance pressuring the Datchworth forwards and forcing mistakes and turnovers.

The half-time score was level at 10-10 after Datchworth caught up with a well worked try.

And with both teams coming out strongly, the second half was just as tight as the first.

However, the Royston defence went into overdrive, with centres Jamie Drage and Edward Shannon pushing the Datchworth attacks backwards.

But with the clock running down, Royston took advantage of a tiring Datchworth defence, with William Tyrell crossing the line for a match-winning try.

The second game also went Royston's way, with Shannon putting The Crows in front after just a minute.

Two more tries followed in the first half to give the under-nines a healthy lead at half-time.

Jamie Capewell and Zach Holsen continued to cause problems after the break, and as a result Royston ran out 30-5 winners.
