Royston Golf Club round-up

ROYSTON Golf Club’s new captains had their traditional drive-in on Sunday.

Over 120 members were present to watch the four new Captains hit their drives and raise money for charity. Junior captain, Luke bailey had the longest recorded drive of 230 yards, closely followed by club captain, Dave Crossley.

The competition preceding the drive in was a fourball-betterball with 96 members taking part. The winners were David Marsh and Tony Hannington with 44 points, but only on countback ahead of Pete Dunbar and Keith Jest. Alan Lakey and Steve rogers took third spot with 43.

Meanwhile the Men’s Saturday Medal was played in glorious sunshine and Pete Prentice was the star performer, with a superb gross 68, two under-par and nett 64, which gave him the spoils in Division One ahead of Simon Elliott (78-12=66) and James Hayden (79-12=67).

Ernie Wells was the winner in Division Two (85-19=66), just ahead of Martin Castle and Dave Sharman who both recorded nett 67.

Malcolm Cooper won the Thursday Medal with a very impressive nett 65 as the 20-handicapper produced his best round of the year to edge out his playing partner Robin Coles, who finished second ahead of Eric Baker.
