Royston Town Vets took a well-earned point from their Cambs FA Invitation League One encounter with league leaders Great Shelford Vets at Garden Walk on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Town took an early lead in the second half when a Shelford defender’s back pass eluded the ‘keeper and trickled into the net.

The visitors equalised soon after when one of their forwards outpaced the Town defence to beat goalkeeper Simon Dobson.

Town regained the lead with the best move of the match: Lee Rogers, who had an outstanding game in midfield, fed the ball to Nick Humphreys on the left. He delivered a pin-point cross for Kevin Barthrop to head in.

A sustained period of pressure from the visitors finally paid off when a shot from the edge of the 18-yard area went through a crowd of players and took a wicked deflection past Dobson to tie the score at 2-2.
