ROYSTON under-sevens made an outstanding start to their first competitive season, which kicked off at Letchworth with the North Herts Mini Rugby tournament.

Playing five matches against local rivals, they demonstrated great determination and natural ability to give themselves the added belief that they have more than enough to compete through the long season that stands before them.

A cautious but impressive start saw them draw 5-5 against home side Letchworth.

A hard fought and deserved 4-2 win against Hitchin followed, then they really got into their stride for a dominant 8-3 win over Stevenage.

The final two matches saw Royston pipped 4-3 by a quick footed Cambridge side, and as signs of a tiring and hot morning's work started to tell, Royston narrowly lost 4-3 to tournament winners Datchworth.

There were some outstanding individual performances, notably Cameron King with eight tries for the day.

More impressive was seeing the team working as a unit, both in attack and defence, and supporting one another throughout, in what was an entirely new experience for most.

The squad is looking forward to a busy and enjoyable season in which they expect to go from strength to strength.
