Steve Castle is hoping those selected for the Chertsey Town game this weekend can replicate the desire and commitment shown by Taylor Parr following last Saturday’s 1-0 away triumph at Chalfont St Peter.

The Royston Town boss was a relieved man after The Crows escaped with the points, Antonio Murray notching the only goal of the rain-sodden, blustery clash at Chalfont, after a somewhat lacklustre display.

But Parr’s performance, who came into the line-up after the expiration of Jhai Dhillon’s loan from Stevenage, impressed the Royston manager.

“In truth, I would have been looking for a much better performance out there; we just didn’t appear to have a lot of self-belief which was disappointing for me,” said Castle.

“We were on the back foot and didn’t keep the ball well enough.

“But one exception to that was Taylor Parr; he played without fear, and put in a great shift for us.

“He deserves a special mention, we lost Jhai, and he will have a battle to get that left-back place back from Taylor now.”

Castle is hoping Dhillon will return to the Royston squad after the full-back was released by Stevenage FC. “It’s obviously disapppointing for Jhai that he has been released, but he is one we would be hopeful of sorting something out for on a non-contract basis for now,” added Castle.

Chertsey are second bottom of Calor League Division One Central, yet Castle is concentrating on ensuring his players make the right decisions and not opposition weaknesses.

“We all want to pass it around, that’s how we like to play, but with the weather how it is, we have to play to the surface, we have to make wise and selective choices on our passes.

“But what we have to be, is on the front foot and be nice and positive.”
