ROYSTON TOWN remain two points clear at the top of the table after comfortably beating London Tigers on Saturday.

Kaan Fehmi opened the scoring for the Crows midway through the first half from the penalty spot before two goals in quick succession from Lewis Endacott and Carl Edwards after the half-time break sealed the victory.

London Tigers’ attack-minded strategy made for an entertaining match at Garden Walk, but ultimately it was the Crows’ superior attacking play that proved the difference on the day.

Despite an even opening period, Royston took the lead through Fehmi on 23 minutes. A quick counter-attack down the left ended with Kaan Fehmi crossing into the area where Matt Standen was clearly barged in the back. Fehmi struck home from the spot and was unlucky to have another goal-bound effort blocked by a defender just before half time on the line.

The Crows came out all guns blazing after an extended half time interval due to an injury to an assistant referee. Ricky Young replaced the injured Rhys Lawrence and him and the rest of the team played some sublime attacking football and remained encamped in and around the visiting penalty area for the opening period of the second half.

An early set-play rewarded Royston a second goal with Endacott heading a set-piece into the top corner from 10 yards. Minutes later it was three when another good move was picked up by Carl Edwards on the edge of the area and his firm shot was placed accurately into the far corner.

Edwards should really have added another when he broke into the area with only the ‘keeper to beat but shot wide and Luke Robins twice broke clear but was denied once by the ‘keeper and another by a last ditch tackle.

The tempo of Royston’s game dropped in the last 20 minutes but the hard work had already been done and the win was well deserved.

Royston Town: Norris, Clemo, Bradshaw (Grinham), McGrandles, Endacott, Collins, Edwards, Lawrence (Young), Fehmi (Redford), Matt Standen, Robins.
