Royston Town are as prepared as they can be according to manager Steve Castle and looking forward to a positive Southern Premier League Central campaign.

The Crows finished their extensive pre-season campaign with a 4-1 win over Ware and are now fully focused on the new campaign which starts at Alvechurch on Saturday.

And Castle believes his team will be ready and raring to go at Lye Meadow.

Speaking on the club website he said: “As with every pre-season lads come in, lads go, some have other options, some maybe just don’t fit into plans, for various reasons there’s always an amount of players to view in these matches.

“At the same time it’s an opportunity for established players to regain fitness and improve on it, while all the time we integrate them all into a forward-thinking, positive outfield that can compete at a high level consistently.

“We are getting there, some good performances and results and an occasional loss to put us in our place.

“Are we ready? Is any team totally prepared? The boys have worked very hard but games will get them match fit.

“And we’ve had more pre-season matches than ever before so we’ve tried our best to cover every angle but I’m sure there will be a few things uncovered.

“There is no Charity Cup game this week but two training sessions and a reserve match to accommodate any players still requiring match minutes.

“We’re as prepared as we can be and reasonably happy with our progress thus far.

“Into the season we go with an away match to start. I’m looking forward to it.”
