Boss calls for league leading Crows to remain together
Boss Steve Castle has sent a rally cry to his table-topping Royston Town squad to stick together as they look to continue their fine start to the Southern League Division One Central campaign.
Tuesday night’s 4-1 home win over Beaconsfield SYCOB, having been trailing 1-0 at half-time, saw Royston jump to top spot above Farnborough, who have two games in hand.
Speaking on www.roystontownfc.co.uk, Castle highlighted the importance of competition for places and the need for a strong squad in order to succeed.
He said: “The lads know that there is competition for places in nearly every position, which can only be positive for the group as a whole.
“Hopefully the squad will remain together.
“All are in my opinion first teamers so selection is difficult, but healthy in a successful campaign.
“Well done to you all, especially the lads at the moment on the fringes.
“They all have showed exceptional attitude.
“All I can say is with injuries, suspensions and lack of form all will be needed for the duration of the season.
“Individually they must keep hold of their shirt and when given their opportunity, excel to force their way in.”
In the game Beaconsfield took the lead against the run of play as Harrison Mepham struck on the stroke of half-time.
Royston replied in the second half and within five minutes of the re-start Adam Murray levelled for the hosts.
Just after an hour Scott Bridges put Castle’s men ahead and Josh Castiglione extended that to 3-1.
In added on time veteran striker John Frendo made certain of the points tucking in for 4-1.
Next up for Royston, as they look to add to their seven league wins this season, is a trip to second bottom Petersfield Town on Saturday.
