Royston Town boss Steve Castle hopes his side can put last Saturday’s “calamitous” FA Trophy defeat to Witham Town behind them as they prepare for six consecutive away games in the coming weeks.

The Crows were only beaten 2-1 at Garden Walk by the Ryman Premier side but Castle was left frustrated by his side’s lack of creativity in front of goal and the team’s ongoing injury woes.

Castle told the Royston Crow: “The upheaval with our injury list has been difficult and we struggled again in this game.

“We were on the backfoot for the first half and I was disappointed we could not take advantage of the situation once we realised they were no world-beaters.

“We only had one shot on target and that was Reece Dobson’s goal. Missed penalties can happen so we can’t be too bitter but overall our quality in front of goal was lacking.

“All in all it was a pretty calamitous day we want to forget”

Following their poor cup exit last weekend, Royston’s hectic travel schedule begins this Saturday as they face third-bottom North Greenford United in Evo-Stik Division One Central.

The Crows will be hoping striker Ryan Ingrey will be back in contention after picking up a knock against Witham while Rob Nightingale may also be available.

Despite injury fears, the boss believes his side have nothing to fear on the road.

Castle continued: “Arguably some of our best performances have come away from home so we will stay positive at the moment.

“Our win at Daventry was one of our most efficient all season so we know we can prosper on the road.”
