ROYSTON Town 'A' have won their first piece of silverware this season after they triumphed in the League Cup.

The final was held at Letchworth's County Ground, and in the end it was a comfortable victory over their league rivals.

The two teams had met just a few day previously in a league game at Garden Walk which ended in a 3-3 draw after Royston had thrown away a two goal advantage.

However, there was to be no repeat of this in the all-important cup final this time around.

Royston used the incentive of throwing away the two league points and within minutes this was all too evident as they took the lead when James Bass tapped home a rebound after skipper Lee Bates' header had cannoned back off the post.

Cottered gradually recovered from the early set back but struggled to really test a stern Royston back line.

Royston doubled their advantage five minutes before half time when Dan Crosk struck a superb free kick that crept just inside the right-hand post.

Royston continued to dominate after the break and the result was put beyond doubt midway though the half when Kerry Chaffey latched onto a pass before beating the 'keeper from close range with a cool low finish into the corner.

Cottered grabbed a late consolation after some sloppy defending which gave the 'keeper no chance but it mattered little in the end as the hard work had already been done to seal an impressive performance and cup victory.

Town's manager, Graham Hagger, was delighted with the win after the game.

He said: "After the disappointment of dropping two points in our previous match with Cottered we were determined to put things right and I was enormously proud of the way we played and particularly pleased for Dan Crosk who picked up the man-of-the-match award.
