Royston Town beat St Margaretsbury 5-0 in the first round of the Herts Senior Cup at Garden Walk on Tuesday evening.

First-half goals from Scott Bridges from a free-kick on the edge of the box and Martell Powell with an acrobatic effort put Steve Castle’s side in command at the break – compounded by the Bury skipper Mitchell seeing red to leave the visitors down to ten men.

The Crows capitalised on the extra man after the interval as Josh Oyinsan made it three before Jack Vasey scored to make it 4-0.

There was some dispute about who grabbed the fifth with a toss-up between Oyinsan and Vasey after a goalmouth scramble before Royston’s Vasey was officially credited with the goal to make it a brace on the night.

The Crows will now play Berkhamsted in the second round of the Herts Senior Cup at Garden Walk on Tuesday, December 5.
