ROYSTON Bowls Club beat Biggleswade in a friendly match on Sunday.

In a five rinks of mixed triples match, Pat Smith galloped to a 22-6 win on rink one before Shirley Pawson won 19-10 on rink two.

Don Sheriff (captain) led his team to a pleasing 25-11 triumph while President Peter Fisk galvanised his team to provide a 22-13 win in rink four.

It was rink five that Royston struggled against a tough opposing three, with Royston skip Roger Neville under pressure for most of the game. On end 11 he was 13-1 down, but did recover to some extent to record a runners-up score of 12 shots to 20.

In the end, though, Royston ran out 100-60 winners.

It was a success story for Royston in the finals of the Chesterton Indoor Bowling Club at Cambridge last Wednesday.

The Royston Rascals took on the Hob Nobs in the final of the Morning Cup. The Royston team of George Lewis at lead, Derek Goodwin at two, and Andy Keating at three, gave a good team performance enabling their skip Malcolm Chapman to guide them home to a comfortable 19-9 win over their opponents to become Morning Cup Champions.

It’s only fair to state that this achievement was only made possible with the participation of their fellow team members, Pam Keating, Diana Chapman, Jim While, and Eileen Hyde.

On Saturday Royston Bowls Club held a Spoon Drive to raise money for Royston Hospital. Around 34 bowlers took part in this fun afternoon and at the end of the day had raised 116.

The winner of the Spoon Drive was Will Martin with Pat Smith coming in a close runner-up.
