ROYSTON gave an impressive display of attacking rugby against an overwhelmed Ickenham side on Saturday.
Boosted by the return of captain Scott Easy, Royston started at lightening pace and applied pressure from the off. Royston had a missed penalty in early stages of the game but it did not take long before they had points of the board with great rucking from the forwards, in particular Damien Fouracres and Jonathan Whittingham, which allowed quick ball to the backs for Ben Ritsema go score, with the conversion successful.
Royston were enjoying a lot of possession and made it count when Michale Schurch went over, before duly converting his own try.
Dan Ritsema then scored another try as Royston were completely in the ascendancy, and things continued to go well for the visitors as from the restart Nick Alford skinned the entire forward pack to touch down a converted try.
Ickenham did pull one try back as Royston lapsed before half-time, and the hosts applied some pressure to the Crows after the break.
However, Royston rode the storm before clinically putting away their next try with ease and Easy dived over the whitewash. The conversion was missed.
With the game all but over there was just enough time for Sam Morris to score, with the conversion successful and the score displaying the dominance Royston had over the game.
After the win Nick Alford said: “It was a great effort from everyone today. I thought the forwards played extremely well. I enjoyed my try – I don’t think I’ve ever scored one like that before!”
