Royston Ladies 1Vauxhall Chiltern 2

MARTIN Powley's goal proved to be only a consolation as Royston lost to Chiltern.

The home side started the game with a great deal of confidence. Some good attacking left the Chiltern goalkeeper to make some good saves. However Chiltern were able to break through the Royston defence and score.

Royston held their heads up and one of the opposition was sent off for being abusive to the umpire.

The hosts took full advantage and Martine Powell passed the ball in to Sarah Buckerfield but the defence deflected it back to Powley who found it easy to find her second of the season with a flick over the keeper.

Royston's defence was tested with many shots saved by keeper Laura Price and Ruth Stapleton, but they conceded a goal from one of the many short corners.

Royston still kept fighting throughout the rest of the game with great attacking and defending play from man of the match Ellie Man but were unable to score again to get a draw.

Royston Ladies II 3 St Albans Ladies III 1

VICTORY against St Albans has left Royston knowing that a win on the final day of the season will give them a chance of avoiding the drop.

In their desperate struggle to get out of the relegation zone, Royston converted all their chances and collected all three points in an enthralling game that could easily have gone either way.

The visitors attacked from the onset and the home side were lucky not to fall behind with defender Katie Ellard twice saving the ball on the goal-line from well struck short corners in the opening 10 minutes. Royston then went ahead, against the run of play, when Ali Carroll slotted home after a good save from the St Albans keeper from Julie Fuller's shot was blocked.

An onslaught of the Royston defence followed but it remained strong and Fuller converted her next chance, from a neat pass from Lucy Davidson, following a clearance from defence by Sarah Farmer.

Minutes into the second half St Albans got a goal back, finally converting one of their many short corners.

The visitors could have drawn level when they were awarded a penalty stroke, but goalkeeper Laura Price saved well to keep the hosts in front.

A tense period followed but minutes from time Farmer got the goal she deserved from a short corner ensuring the points for Royston.

Queenswood 4 Royston Ladies III 0

ROYSTON are left staring relegation in the face after this defeat.

This was a very hard game from the beginning, and the home side scored all their goals in short succession in the first half

Fine goalkeeping from Tash Ball did her best to keep the goals out but good set pieces by Queenswood finally paid off.

The second half saw Royston playing a better game and they were unlucky not to score from a short corner taken well by Heather Polge who made a lovely pass to Helen Miles who slipped the ball to Lisa Thompson, who struck hard at goal but could not get it past the strong defence.
