THE sporting talent of Royston will be on display again on Sunday for the town's fourth sports fayre at Royston Leisure Centre.

The Sport Royston Sports Fayre, organised by Sports Council chairman Ken Charles, will feature a variety of activities and displays from a number of Royston's leading clubs and organisations.

Mr Charles said: "This is the fourth sports fayre to be held in Royston and it promises to be another great day. It's all about increasing participation in sport and attracting young people between the age of 16 and 24, and women and men over the age of 55.

"That's the message that we want to put out there, because in this town there are a lot of sporting opportunities, both casually and competitively, and the sports fayre is a great way in doing that."

Clubs involved in the demonstrations include Royston Cricket Club, Royston Celtic Football Club, Royston Shotokan Karate Club, Royston Rugby Club, Royston Swimming Club and Royston Tennis Club (at Meridian School).

Royston Netball Clubs' juniors will also be in action with a club match, while basketball players from Corvus Cornix and Greneway will be showing visitors their skills on the court.

There will also be a display area with club information on hand, with Royston Bowls Club, Royston Runners Club, Greneway School, North East Herts School Sports Partnership, North Hertfordshire Sport Development and Royston Volunteer Centre all involved.

Mr Charles said: "The town and the surrounding areas have so many brilliant clubs who have a lot to offer the people of Royston.

"Everyone is welcome to come down and have a go at the different sports and we really do have a lot going on.

"It's a good opportunity for some of the youngsters to have a go at some different sports, ones that might not be available within their school, and hopefully they'll get involved.

"For the first time we also have the trampoline and gymnastics clubs involved, and I'm sure they will be very popular. Overall it promises to be a great day of sport."

n The Sport Royston Sports Fayre will run from 10am to 5pm at Royston Leisure Centre on Sunday, April 27.

Refreshments will be on site all day in the pick-up area.
