ROYSTON Bowls Club swept in to the semi-finals of the Club Top Ten competition with an emphatic victory against Welwyn Garden City

Matt Coppen gave Royston a good start by winning his singles game 21-8., but the other teams results were closer, with the fours winning 19-13, the triples winning 14-12 and the pairs recording a 20-16 win.

Royston were also hosts to Brentham on Saturday in a friendly game. The three triples of men and two triples of ladies had an enjoyable game with Brentham winning 75-60.

Sunday morning saw an under-30 at Green Drift, with Herts beating Essex 67-53 in a three rinks of fours match, while in the afternoon a friendly between the captain's team and the vice captain's team saw the former win by 13 shots.

Last Thursday saw A North Herts Triples play at Royston and involving two Royston teams.Pat Smith, Eileen Hyde and Marian Collinge won 19-11 in rink one, while on rink two Pam Keating, Linda O'Flanagan and Yvonne Whitehouse went down 20-14.

The same day saw Royston play Duxford in a very tight Meldreth & District League Triples game.

Comberton visited Royston on Friday for another Meldreth & District League game. This turned out to be one-sided as Royston romped home by 44 shots, 92-48 to take six of the seven league points.

COUNTY CHAMPION: Royston's Matt Coppen has just become the Herts under-25 singles champion by beating Billy Pallet of Garston in the final played at Hatfield last Thursday.

Coppen had a convincing win 2-0 win, 11-2 and 13-2. He will now go through to play in the National Finals at Worthing on August 19 and 20.
