ROYSTON powered their way into the McMullen Trophy semi-final with a 72-37 hammering of neighbours Baldock.
About 40 spectators turned up to watch this match, held on the neutral green of the Whitethorn BC in Letchworth.
Three rinks of four men is the format and the Royston team took early leads on all rinks.
By the 10th end, Royston were ahead by 19 shots, but there was plenty of time for the anticipated Baldock comeback.
However, this did not materialise and the Royston team pressed on achieve a comfortable victory by 35 shots.
Royston will face Owls BC at Roebuck on September 10.
Royston's Peter Adams, playing in the Letchworth & District quarter-finals of the singles, had a comfortable 22-7 win over his opponent B Platten, of Whitethorn.
Last Tuesday saw Royston Vets take on Shephalbury in five rinks of triples. Royston coasted home with a 19-shot margin, 96-77.
Holwell were the hosts to a friendly of five rinks of mixed fours with Royston on Thursday.
This turned out to be a close game with Royston winning 95-87.
Another round of the Letchworth & District Men's Pairs, involving Royston's Don Sheriff and Mel Flack, was played at Howard Gardens BC on Friday evening.
Their opponents, D Greatorex and partner were outplayed by the Royston pair, who ran out 26-3 winners.
Royston played Meldreth in the Meldreth & District League on Friday. Although Royston put out a strong team, Meldreth put up a good performance to win 69-57, taking six of the seven points.
As Hertfordshire's Club Top Ten champions, the Royston ladies' team were up against Chichester in the early rounds of this national competition. This round was played at Sevenoaks, on Saturday, and the team was given good support by the club.
However, after putting up a fine performance early on, Royston lost their edge and allowed their opponents to take control.
Yvonne Whitehouse won the singles but Royston lost the pairs, the triples, and the fours. Although they lost overall, this was a magnificent achievement to reach the national level of this competition.
On Sunday, the semi-finals of the North Herts ladies fours, triples, and singles were played at Stevenage Town BC.
Royston's Yvonne Whitehouse lost her singles match against Shirley Bradbury, of Letchworth Conservatives.
Beryl Huckle, Eileen Hyde, Linda O'Flanagan, and Shirley Parson, won their fours game against the Riverain ladies.
Evelyn Huffer, Linda O'Flanagan and Shirley Pawson lost their triples game 20-15
The finals will be held at the Roebuck BC (Stevenage) on Saturday, September 2.
