Luke Mossey is confident he can grab another podium finish at round eight of the British Superbikes Championship at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire, this weekend.

The Royston rider, currently seventh in the overall standings, will be looking to break into the top six of the 30-strong field, after a podium at Brands Hatch earlier in the month.

The Lincolnshire circuit is known as ‘mini-Nürburgring’ due to its twisting and undulating nature. The track winds through open park and woodland and is one of the most popular destinations on the BSB calendar. “There’s no other track like it in the world,” said Mossey, who rides for the Quattro Plant TECcare Kawasaki team. “It’s a great race weekend, it’s always on the August Bank Holiday so the weather is normally good and it’s always full with spectators,” he added.

Although it’s a favourite with the riders, it does come with plenty of challenges. One of the most difficult sections at Cadwell Park is ‘The Mountain’. It’s a steep climb and riders can’t see over it to see what’s ahead of them. It’s one of the most famous sections of any circuit and you will often see riders get airborne as they hit the summit. “It’s a difficult track on a superbike – narrow without much runoff and you need your wits about you when you’re racing at close to 200mph,” Mossey explained.

Due to the narrowness of the track and its tight corners, riders have to plan where they can grab an advantage over their rivals. “It’s one of the hardest tracks on the calendar to overtake on so you’ve got to be a little bit forceful, but sometimes it’s good to mix it up with the other riders,” said Mossey.

The young racer carries a lot of corner speed when he’s out on the track meaning fast, flowing circuits suit his riding style, but Cadwell’s twisty nature doesn’t daunt the rider. “It’s not the fastest track in the UK, it’s mainly a stop and go circuit – there are a few fast corners, but you spend a lot of the time in second gear. It is enjoyable and I love going to it every year.”

Coupled with last year’s top 10 finish, Cadwell has been a good hunting ground for him and he’ll hope for more of the same this weekend.

Mossey said: “I’m looking forward to getting back on the podium at Cadwell. We’ve found a sweet spot with the bike and it’s running really well. The team is working hard and we’re on a roll.”
