Royston Runners take the challenge

SIX Royston Runners completed this year s Edinburgh Marathon. Tony Price, Paul Haynes, David Marriage, Geoff Russell, Karl Howard, and Jane Landon took part in the challenging race, alongside 6,500 other competitors. Starting in the city s Regents Road,
SIX Royston Runners completed this year's Edinburgh Marathon.
Tony Price, Paul Haynes, David Marriage, Geoff Russell, Karl Howard, and Jane Landon took part in the challenging race, alongside 6,500 other competitors.
Starting in the city's Regents Road, the course followed the coast road out to Gosford House, before heading back to Musselburgh Race Course where the runners were treated to a grandstand finish.
First home for the Runners was Price, with a time of 3 hours 20 minutes 58 seconds. Haynes was next in, 3:46.48, ahead of Marriage, 3:46.57, Russell, 3:51.5, Howard, 3:58.7, and Landon 4:30.47 secs.
Both Haynes and Marriage registered personal bests.
Haynes said: "It was a fantastic day, the weather was near perfect, and although the wind was strong in places, to finish in finish in front of so many cheering spectators was great.
"I'm very pleased for all of us, because we trained really hard for the event - which makes it all worthwhile."
n Reed Cricket Club's first team wicketkeeper Simon Jackson swapped his gloves for running shoes and completed the course in an impressive time of 2 hours 58 minutes 36 seconds to set a new personal best.
He said: "I was really pleased with the time, especially in beating the three-hour barrier, making the hours of training worthwhile.
