Royston built on their fine victory against Welwyn Garden City on Saturday with a thumping 6-1 victory over mid-table Oxhey Jets at Garden Walk on Tuesday evening.

With both teams having played four games in the previous week, it was Royston who looked sharper and fitter all over the pitch and the final scoreline was fully justified.

The home side settled early and took the lead after seven minutes when David Cain rose highest to head home Luke Robins' corner at the far post.

Further chances followed and a deserved second goal settled the team in the 23rd minute when a fine move down the left was scrambled clear to Carl Edwards who struck past the 'keeper from just inside the area.

Oxhey played some decent stuff but lacked the creativity to trouble the Crows defence.

Cain, Ricky Young and Robins all had further chances to extend the lead before the break but they instead left the majority of the scoring until the second period.

Royston had to wait until mid-way through the half to grab their third when another corner caused defensive havoc and Ross Collins rammed home the loose ball high into the net from 10 yards.

Oxhey got a goal back moments later when a 25-yard shot took a freakish deflection to wrong-foot Gibson and trickle into the net.

It proved to be a mere consolation as Royston replied instantly with a period of clinical finishing that saw them grab three more goals before the end.

Arin Fehmi stormed forward from left back to coolly slot home number four after beating his man inside the area.

Then Edwards just about managed to score his second of the match five minutes from the end.

Substitute Russell Bull's shot rebounded off the post into the path of Edwards, who somehow managed to head against the bar from two yards, only to spare his blushes and with a second bite at the cherry to cap a very good performance in the middle of the park.

Striker Bull put the icing on the cake in the last minute after rounding the 'keeper and rolling the ball into the empty net.

It was a thoroughly deserved win for the Crows and they never let the visitors have any time on the ball.

Robins was the man-of-the-match after a brilliant display on the left wing for the Crows.

Paul Attfield was understandably delighted with the result and said: "We played with a good tempo all night and were always in their faces which they couldn't cope with.
