ON Saturday high-flying Royston made their last away league journey of the season down to rock-bottom Old Grammarians, however if the young Royston team thought they would have an easy run out they were in for a shock.

Old Grammarians fielded a forwards pack which had a wealth of experience and every player outweighed their Crows counterpart, Royston noticed this and utilised their backline efficiently to allow Will Cottrell to dot down in the corner.

It wasn’t long before another excellently executed backline move saw Ritsema burst through to run in an unopposed try.

The Old Grammarians pack started to come into their own, they kept possession and mauled inch by inch up the pitch right up to the Crows 5m line, however Oliver Brooke made a swooping steal and trundled 45 metres up the pitch to relieve the pressure.

Rob Turner was next on the scoreline for the Crows, a quick tap penalty allowed him to scythe through his opposite man and dive over the line in an emphatic manner.

The next try was a forward spectacular. A rolling maul was set up by the Dummett brothers who controlled the ball beautifully after Sam Morris had plucked it out of the air from a lineout.

The maul was driven 30 metres up the pitch before Fouracres managed to break free and crash through the Grammarians full-back to continue his exceptional try scoring form.

The Crows’ next try was set up by some individual brilliance. Alex Hiom used some dainty footwork and, after an almost length of the pitch run, had the awareness to throw a blind 30 metre pass to allow scrumhalf Ash Eusden to dot the ball down.

Jonathan Whitingham crossed the whitewash soon after with a trademark three-metre burrowing effort.

With the bonus point win in the bag Royston took their foot off the gas and allowed Old Grammarians to score a consolation try after a quick tap penalty and succession of scrums.

However, Royston had the final say in the game, from the restart Tom Crawley surged up the middle of the pitch and a smart offload to Steve Archibald saw the Crows last score of the game to round off a 47-7 triumph.

Royston have now scored more than 1,000 points this season in all league and cup competitions, a win this Saturday against rivals Quintin would guarantee the side promotion.

It is a home game being played at The Heath 2.30pm kick-off, it is also the Royston vice president’s day so a big crowd is expected.
